IKEA Hack: DIY Bar Cabinet

I had a small niche in my dining room I wanted to fill with a bar cabinet to store glassware and table linens but couldn’t find one that was the right size and color for my space.

As an alternative, the storage piece I created to fit inside the niche came together with an IKEA Maximera cabinet painted light mint green combined with gold legs and brass pulls.

I gave it even more personality by wallpapering the interior with a retro tropical pattern and adding four sleek brass cabinet pulls.  The supply list for this DIY bar cabinet is below:

ikea sektion/maximera with 2 drawers & doors (30” wide) / 22” table legs spray painted gold /

12” cabinet pulls /  freshly cut stems paint for cabinets & trim / retro tropical wallpaper

My inspiration came from these two wet bar cabinets, I loved the sea green color with gold legs and hardware so I recreated my own version with the supplies linked above.

The interior is filled with a new (and growing) collection of glassware for making cold drinks (after all it is Florida!). It’s also a practical to the house because it cleared up space from my kitchen cabinets and is now a place to store dining room placemats and linens too.

To pull it together, I assembled the cabinet frame, primed it and painted it, then wallpapered the back and shelves, attached the hardware after careful measurement, then connected the doors and drawers with the hardware provided.

It’s a more affordable version of the bar cabinets I liked and fits the style of the home as well.
